Des MoinesBuccaneers to Collect for Victims of Twister
Donations to Go to the Red Cross for Distribution to Counties Hit by Tornados
DES MOINES, Iowa - November 15, 2005 - The Des Moines Buccaneers today announced that they will collect donations at their next home game to help victims of the severe weather that struck central Iowa over the weekend.
On Saturday, beginning at 6:45 pm, prior to the game, representatives from the Buccaneers' organization will collect cash donations from fans wanting to help in the relief effort. Additionally, a silent auction will take place during the game with all proceeds donated to the effort. The items to be auctioned include a hockey stick, helmet and jersey all signed by the Des Moines Buccaneers.
"Central Iowa has supported the Buccaneers for over 26 years," said Shawn Edwards, president of the Des Moines Buccaneers. “Many of our supporters are like family and we realize that some of our family members were hurt by the recent tornados. We think now is the time to return the favor.”
The Buccaneers are also encouraging fans to bring teddy bears to the game on Saturday for the annual teddy bear toss. All the teddy bears tossed onto the ice after the Bucs score their first goal. The teddy bears will be collected and distributed to area children’s hospitals.
The Buccaneers are back in action at 95KGGO Arena on Saturday against defending Clark Cup champion, the Cedar Rapids Roughriders.
The puck drops at 7:30 pm Saturday is also "Guaranteed Win Night" presented by Musser Accounting. If the unthinkable happens and the Bucs lose, every fan leaves with a ticket voucher that can be used for a future game.
Saturday is also the Des Moines Register's Family Fun Night at 95KGGO Arena where families get four tickets, four hotdogs, four sodas and four popcorns for $44. There will be a free public skate after the game.
