Sioux Falls Rallies to Defeat Bucs 6-5
January 11, 2007

After maintaining a 4-1 lead going into the third period, the Des Moines Buccaneers took a tough loss by way of a shootout in Sioux Falls on Wednesday. After goals by Shane Sims (6), Jeff Petry (9), Andrew Olsen (10), and Ben Ryan (8) in the second period, the Stampede had a rally of their own in the third. Des Moines was able to hold the lead until late in the third, when Stampede forward Cory Tropp scored two goals in the final four minutes, tying the game, and sending it into overtime, and eventually a shootout where Sioux Falls beat Des Moines 1-0.

Coach Regg Simon said of the performance following the game, “Not to take anything away from them, but tonight’s (loss) was our doing…They were the motivated team in the third period.”

The OTL gives Des Moines a much needed point to give them sole possession of the number two spot in the West Division, but the Bucs still remain seven points behind first place Sioux City.

The Bucs head to Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis this Friday and Saturday to take on the Indiana Ice in a two-game weekend series. Indiana is currently third in the East, with a record of 15-10-3, and a home record of 11-2-1.

The Bucs next home action is Friday, January 19th against the Omaha Lancers. Game time is set for 7:00pm, and it’s Des Moines Register Family Fun Night. 4 Tickets, 4 Hotdogs, 4 Sodas and 4 Autographs for $44. Also, $1.00 Hot Dogs for ALL!! FREE Public Skate following the game.
