Bucs Pick up Point in Tri-City Shootout
January 22, 2007
The Buccaneers fell in a shootout to Tri-City 4-3 on Saturday night, but picked up one point. Des Moines, who led most of the way, was carried by goals from Matt Read, Ryan Ruikka, and Chris Knowlton, while goalie Matt Dalton was able to fend off 43 of the Storm’s 46 shots (.934). However, a late powerplay goal by Luke Lucyk, was enough to tie it up for Tri-City, and send the game into overtime.
After both teams were held scoreless in the extra period, the Buccaneers were unable to outscore the Storm in the shootout and came away with an OTL.
Kyle Bailey, along with Jeff Petry and Richard Purslow added assists for Des Moines, as the Bucs fell to fourth place in a very close West Division. The Bucs, now with 39 points, are six behind first place Sioux City (45), Tri-City (42), and Omaha (40).
The Buccaneers return to 95KGGO Arena Friday and Saturday to begin their first of a chain of six consecutive home games as they take on the Indiana Ice. Friday will be Miller Lite ($1.00) "Buc" Beer Night, while Saturday night will feature the Hanson Brothers from the hockey classic, “Slap Shot”, live and in person.
