Olson Commits to College
January 31, 2007
Urbandale, Iowa --- The Des Moines Buccaneers proudly announce today that forward Andrew Olson has verbally committed to the University of Connecticut Huskies for the 2007-08 season.
Olson, a native of Alexandria, Minnesota, is in his second season with the Buccaneers. During the 2005-06 season, he helped lead the Buccaneers to the Clark Cup Tier I National Championship by posting 25 points (7 goals, 18 assist) in 56 games. In just 34 games this year, he has eclipsed his point totals from the previous season with 12 goals and 18 assists (30 points).
"Andrew's story is what Junior hockey is all about," said Buccaneers coach Regg Simon. "He wasn’t satisfied with what he had done a year ago. He paid his dues and a huge price over the summer. If you look at his point totals and what he's done for our team so far, I'd say he’s earned everything he's getting."
Olson is the twelfth Buccaneers to commit to a Division I hockey program this season. Others include Jeff Petry (Michigan State), Ben Rosen (Brown), Jimmy Martin (Yale), Aaron Palushaj (Michigan), Rich Purslow (Nebraska-Omaha), Ben Ryan (Notre Dame), Matt Read (Bemidji State), Travis Paeth (Western Michigan), Shane Sims (Ohio State), Austin Handley (Michigan State) and Matt Dalton (Bemidji State).
