Two Buccaneers Named to Team USA

Des Moines, Iowa --- The Des Moines Buccaneers and USA Hockey announced today the roster and coaching staff for its 2007 U.S. Junior Select Team. The squad will compete at the 2007 World Junior A Challenge November 5 – 11 in Trail and Nelson, B.C., Canada.
Buccaneer Ben Blood (Plymouth, MN) has been selected as one of seven defensemen for the team. Blood, who was drafted by Des Moines in the 2006 USHL Futures Draft, has posted three assists in four games for the Buccaneers to date. He has verbally committed to the University of North Dakota and was a fourth round draft pick (120th overall) by the Ottawa Senators in the 2007 NHL Draft.
Head Coach & General Manager Regg Simon (Elk River, MN) has been named the Assistant Coach for the team. In just two and half seasons in his position, he’s been named the 2006 USHL General Manager of the Year and led the team to the 2006 Clark Cup Tier I National Championship, the fourth in Des Moines’ history. In 2007, he led the Bucs to the Clark Cup semi-finals before a 1-0 overtime loss kept them from defending their title. In the past two seasons, thirty-six of his players have moved on to Division I college hockey and there have been ten players that have been NHL draft picks come through the organization.
Simon will be assisting P.K. O’Handley, who had been named the Head Coach of the team. O’Handley is also the Head Coach & General Manager of the Waterloo Black Hawks in the USHL.
