Simon Reaches Milestone
December 3, 2007
Des Moines Buccaneers Head Coach Regg Simon notched his 100th career USHL win Saturday night as the Bucs beat the Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets 4-3 in overtime. The Bucs built a 3-0 lead through two periods, but saw that lead diminish when the Blue Jackets scored three times in the third period. Recently acquired Buc Brett Bruneteau scored at the 2:27 mark of overtime to give Coach Simon the win.
Simon’s coaching career began in Tri-City where he took over for Jim Hillman 24 games into the 2002-03 season in which he led the Storm to 19 wins. He came to Des Moines to become the Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator under his former coach Bob Ferguson during the 2003-04 season. He took over the helm midway through the 2004-05 season when Ferguson stepped down. He has since led the Buccaneers to an Eastern Division Championship and a Clark Cup Tier I National Championship, tallying 81 total wins in just three seasons as the Buccaneers head coach. Below is the yearly breakdown of Coach Simon’s wins.
