Head Coach & General Manager
Regg Simon
Regg returns to the Buccaneers from his alma mater, University of Alaska-Anchorage, where he served as an assistant coach over the past two seasons. Simon coached the Buccaneers for parts of five seasons from 2003 to 2008, with the last two and a half as head coach and general manager. In Simon’s first full season as the Bucs head coach he directed the team to a USHL Clark Cup National Championship with a record of 33-21-6, and he earned the USHL’s General Manager of the Year award that season as well. Over the course of his USHL career, he’s helped numerous players move on to the NCAA level and developed a number of NHL draft picks, including several players taken in the first and second round.
Simon played for the Des Moines Buccaneers from 1994-1996, and helped lead the Bucs to their first “triple-crown” in 1995 - A USHL Anderson Cup for the best regular-season record, the Clark Cup for the playoff championship, and the Gold Cup, junior hockey’s national championship. Simon, on his return to Des Moines said, “I’ve had success in Des Moines as a player, and as a coach, and I’m excited about the opportunity to bring the Buccaneers organization back to a level that the fans expect and deserve.” Simon also said he looks forward to returning to the Des Moines area where he called home for many years. “There’s always been a special place in my heart for not only the Bucs, but for Des Moines and that community”. He went on to say “The fans in Des Moines are some of the best and I’m looking forward to getting back there.”
