BUCCANEERS DEFEAT STARS IN A SHOOTOUT; FINAL SCORE 6-5

DES MOINES, IOWA – The Buccaneers scored four powerplay goals in regulation before winning against the Lincoln Stars in a shootout. The final score of the game was 6-5.
The Buccaneers scored three goals in the first period. Jack Berger scored the first goal for the Buccaneers at 12:27. The powerplay goal came off of passes from T.J. Tynan and Ryan Walters. Chris Stafne scored less than a minute later at 13:09 off of passes form H.T. Lenz and Austin Coldwell. The Bucs ended the period with a powerplay goal from Eric Knodel, off of a pass from Ryan Walters, at 19:52 in the period.
Lincoln opened the second period with a goal from Kyle Gibbons at 1:45 before Jack Berger scored his second powerplay goal of the evening. The goal, coming at 11:02, came off of passes from Ryan Walters and Eric Knodel and put the Buccaneers ahead of the Stars 4-1. Lincoln finished the period with a powerplay goal from Kyle Gibbons at 15:35.
Kyle Gibbons scored his third goal at 1:23 in the third period followed by two more Lincoln goals from Tyler Deresky and Andrew Ammon. That third goal put the Stars up 5-4. The Buccaneers tied the game off a powerplay goal from Ryan Walters. That goal, off of assists T.J. Tynan and Jack Berger, sent the game into a sudden death overtime period.
After a scoreless overtime period, the game was decided in a shootout. Lincoln would make no goals in the shootout but D.J. Vandercook and Taylor Wolfe scored for the Buccaneers. The final score of the game was 6-5.
The Buccaneers went 4 for 9 on the powerplay and had 38 shots on the goal. Goalie Charles Williams recorded the win, stopping 23 of 28 shots on goal.
The Bucs return to action on Thursday night against the Omaha Lancers. It’s Student Night – students, staff and faculty can purchase one ticket and get a second one free! The doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
