DES MOINES, IA – Urbandale, IA native defenseman Noah Ellis (2002) has announced his commitment to UMass-Amherst.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to continue my education and career at UMass-Amherst,” Ellis said. “I’m thrilled to have the chance to play Division I hockey under such a great coaching staff and personnel.”

Noah is currently preparing to represent the United States at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in the Czech Republic. The tournament begins Aug. 5 as the U.S will take on Russia.

“Congratulations to Noah and his family with this well-deserved commitment to UMass-Amherst, it’s great seeing Noah’s hard work paying off,” GM Tom Mannino said. “It is very special for our organization and community to have one of our local players from Urbandale representing Team USA at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. We wish him the best of luck as he competes internationally in August.”

Ellis grew up playing for the Jr. Bucs Youth Program at Buccaneer Arena in Urbandale and played four seasons for Head Coach Jason Baumhover.

“It’s great for the Des Moines Youth Hockey community to see a local youth hockey player reaching his Division I goal,” Baumhover said. “Noah has always had a tremendous work ethic and sets a great example for younger kids who want to follow his path.”

Noah was drafted by the Buccaneers in the 16th Round, 246th overall in the 2018 USHL Phase II Draft. He appeared in nine games for Des Moines last season.
