DES MOINES, IA – The Buccaneers announced today they have added forward Yaroslav Alexeyev (1999) to the active roster.
Last season, Alexeyev put up 36 goals and 37 assists for 73 points in 65 games for Baie-Comeau Drakkar. The Russian born winger spent the last three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In those three seasons, he tallied 178 points in 188 games played as a member of the Sherbrooke Phoenix and Baie-Comeau.
“We are very excited to welcome Yaroslav to the Buccaneers’ family,” General Manager Tom Mannino said. “He is a 200-foot forward with a proven track record of offensive contribution and plays with deception and speed. Adding a player of his ilk and experience will enhance the development of our younger players. We look forward to watching him excel in Des Moines under our coaching staff.”
Internationally, Alexeyev has represented Russia at the U18 World Hockey Championship twice, including a three goal, two assist performance which led Russia in scoring during the 2016 tournament. The following year, he and the Russians captured the Bronze Medal at the 2017 U18 tournament. Alexeyev also brought home a Silver Medal at the 2016 U17 World Hockey Championships, scoring three goals and an assist in six games played at the tournament. In 2016 Alexeyev competed in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup recording one goal and four assists in five games played.
“We’re really excited about this addition, he brings a wealth of Junior hockey experience and point production,” Head Coach Peter Mannino said. “He’s a fast, smart and dynamic offensive player. He’s hungry to get to the next level and will serve as a great model for our younger players’ development as well.”
Alexeyev will wear #23 for the Buccaneers this season.
