Des Moines Buccaneer captain Patrick Grasso was named CCM USHL Forward of the Week for his performance in a home and home weekend sweep of the Tri-City Storm on March 25th and 26th.
The Buccaneers were in Kearney, Nebraska Friday taking on the Storm and both teams were scoreless after two periods. Des Moines got a goal early in the third period and a second late with 1:28 to go before Grasso put in an empty netter with 47 seconds left. The Buccaneers picked up a 3-0 win to finish the regular season a perfect 3-0-0 at Viaero Events Center and the goal was Grasso’s 100th in his USHL career.
Grasso would quickly add to that on Saturday back at Buccaneer Arena as he picked up 3 points in the Buccaneer’s 6-3 victory in the rematch vs. the Storm. Grasso had the primary assist on a Zach Jordan goal at 4:03 of the 2nd period that sparked a four goal period for Des Moines. Nine minutes later Ty Pelton-Byce took the puck from the goal line on the left wing side and centered it over to Grasso who buried it at 13:22. Grasso put an exclamation point on the night and weekend with an empty net goal at 18:44 of the 3rd period, his 21st goal on the year.
The Ankeny, Iowa native ended the weekend with four points (3-1-4), a +4 rating and seven shots on goal.
